Helping others in life recovery
Chances are someone may have referred you to me because you struggle with addiction, self-defeating behaviors, and co-occurring mental health disorders. You may have tried going to treatment or support groups but struggled to sustain lasting change. Maybe you have worked with a therapist who has little experience with addiction. If you are ready to live free from addiction and reclaim your life, we have something in common, because I have walked this journey.
In 2009, I was suffering from overwhelming stress, depression, grief and alcoholism. Once I understood how emotionally and mentally sick I was, I visited a psychotherapist, and he may have saved my life. My therapist viewed me holistically and explained the connections between my brain chemistry, alcohol use, mental health disorders, my childhood, my choices, and basically helped me see myself in a whole new perspective. We walked carefully through a period of self-discovery, and I learned to understand the purpose alcohol served in my life. My therapist then helped me erase some negative core beliefs about myself and the world, and we set out to create a new life where alcohol was not necessary. Despite 15 years of heavy drinking and dozens of attempts to quit, one session with this therapist allowed me to go home, dump all my booze down the drain, and today I celebrate over 13 years of sobriety.
During those years of life recovery, I became a board certified addictions counselor and psychotherapist. I have helped hundreds of men and women recover their lives, and I want to help you. Even if you would not classify your behaviors or substance use as addiction, it is worth a free 15 minute phone consultation to evaluate how I may help you grow to make better life choices, increase your emotional and mental wellness, and improve your interpersonal relationships, and reduce dependency on things outside of you (e.g., drugs, alcohol, pornography) for your well-being. You need not have a commitment to stop your addiction to begin our work, only a willingness to explore the ways in which you may spiritually and emotionally grow.
